This year, rather than hosting an in-person Kindness Day event, the PTO has partnered with our librarian Jeanne Hand, our School Counselor Jessica Fulton, our School Phycologist Dr. Zampolin, and our Art Teachers Mrs. Eckler to bring the celebration of kindness into the school from Monday, April 5th- Friday, April 16th. Below are all the fun ways we've incorporated kindness into our KES curriculum:

Our 5th graders included "Kindness Tip of the Day" during our Good Morning KES announcements. Mrs. Hand set up a Flipgrid for our student leaders to record themselves giving the tips to share with the KES community.

Mrs. Hand incorporated kindness themed books in her classroom read-alouds and the PTO donated the following 6 kindness themed books to the KES library (one book per grade level.):

  • 5th - The 3 Questions by Jon Muth

  • 4th - Come With Me by Holly McGhee

  • 3rd - Power of One by Trudy Ludwig

  • 2nd - I Walk With Vanessa by Kerascoet

  • 1st - A Hat for Mrs. Goldman by Michelle Edwards

  • K - Everybody's Welcome by Patricia Hegarty

The Kindness Committee created a "Be The I In Kind" workbook for each student to take home.  The workbook is intended to serve as an activity book on kindness. Examples of pages within the book include exercises in self care, coloring pages, guided journaling, and ideas on how to be a good friend and how to be kind to the planet. Attached here is a downloadable copy of the "Be The I In Kind Workbook".

Our art teacher, Mrs. Eckler incorporated the kindness theme into her art classes. She shared examples to help students create graphic design elements that were included in the "Be The I In Kind" workbook. Students chose positive words or messages, designed lettering, shapes, pictures, areas, and Zentangle (repetitive, relaxing line and shape designs) in all the shapes and spaces.

Ms. Fulton incorporated kindness themes in her Social Emotional lessons. Ms. Fulton and Dr. Zampolin also shared Social/Emotional resources for our "Be The I In Kind" workbook so the language we use is familiar to the students.

Thank you to all of the teachers and students who supported this amazing effort this year!
